Dallas Hot Wieners: Best Hot Dogs in the Hudson Valley
If you truly appreciate a delicious hot dog, you'll want to veer off the NYS Thruway to hit Dallas Hot Wieners every time you drive up to the Catskills. It's cheap, it's clean, it's kid-friendly, and it's so much better than a fast food chain. Plus, it's the only place you can buy their incredible secret sauce to slather onto grilled chicken, burgers, and dogs all summer long.
Besides hot dogs, they serve burgers, chicken fingers, fries, onion rings, breakfast sandwiches, Greek-leaning sandwiches (like souvlaki and gyro), and diner sandwiches (like egg salad and tuna melts).
We recommend going straight for the $1.95 Dallas Hot Wiener, a snappy dog in a soft bun, topped with mustard, onions, and secret sauce. It's all about the sweet-hot, super-savory secret sauce, which isn't mass-marketed. We asked for to take some home, and for $3.50, they handed a 10-ounce coffee cup filled with the sauce, which we brushed onto grilled chicken for amazing results. (Next time, we'll get a whole pint for $5.50.)
Now, I have a 7-year-old boy, so you can imagine that we had a major discussion about the name of this restaurant. Why "Dallas Hot Wieners"? We're not in Dallas, and these dogs aren't hot and spicy. Plus, who actually says "wieners," if not referring to a Dachshund ("wiener dog") or some guy's private parts? I mean, the 7-year-old has a point. But if you think about it (and trust me, we really thought about it), the name "Dallas Hot Dogs" or "Dallas Hot Frankfurters" wouldn't have the same ring to it.
Dallas Hot Wieners. That's just how it's gotta be.
Dallas Hot Wieners has 5 locations in Kingston, Saugerties, Albany, and Lake Katrine. There's a a Dallas Hot Weiner Fan Club on Facebook.
