Best Milkshakes in the Catskills
Who’s up for a loaded milkshake? A new Catskills ice cream shop is taking milkshakes to the next level. At Cutie’s Sweets& Treats in Cairo, the rims of old-fashioned milkshake glasses are rolled in cake frosting, which works as a sugary glue to blanket with candy, sprinkles, popcorn, or graham cracker crumbs. Then, the glasses are filled with creamy shakes and piled high with treats.
The Birthday Cake Milkshake (pictured above and below), is rolled in vanilla frosting and rainbow sprinkles, and then topped with some wafer cookies and an actual slice of confetti cake, with whipped cream and a cherry on top.
The Cookies & Cream milkshake is rolled in chocolate sprinkles and topped with lots of whipped cream, chocolate syrup, a couple of Oreos and white chocolate Hershey’s Cookies ‘N’ Creme candy bar.
I haven’t had one of those white chocolate bars since I was a kid myself, and I was happy to find a selection of nostalgic candy inside Cutie’s shop.
They’ve got your basic candy bars along with some harder-to-find items, like Necco Wafers and gummy hot dogs. Inside, Cutie’s has checkerboard floors and cheerful red stools, chairs, and curtains, setting the mood for classic treats.
Outside, there are a couple of big umbrella tables for enjoying your sweets al fresco. If you can’t stomach the sugar rush of a milkshake with all the fixings, they’ve also go Italian ices, soda floats, and a section for “ice cream sodas” made with milk, syrup, seltzer, and your choice of ice cream. (Hey, that sounds like an egg cream to me — my favorite!)
We loved this place, especially because it offers treats for the kids when we’re treating ourselves to Old Factory Brewing, which is just around the corner.
Cutie’s Sweets & Treats is located at 618 Main St, Cairo, NY. Current hours are 2pm to 9pm on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday; 2pm to 7pm on Sunday; closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
