Best Egg Sandwich in the Catskills: See and Be Kitchen
The egg sandwich at See and Be goes above and beyond the basic BEC. Made-to-order with the freshest possible ingredients, this spectacular, fully customizable Catskills breakfast sandwich is worth a drive to Cairo, but it really should come with a warning: It may forever ruin the bacon-egg-and-cheese from your go-to corner bodega. (Side note: It can even be vegan-ized!)
See and Be already has a reputation for their spectacular house-baked breads, and as the vehicle for your breakfast sandwich, you can choose between a soft and sweet milk bun, a hearty and crusty English muffin, or a light and buttery sourdough croissant.
Get your golden-yolked, fresher-than-fresh eggs however you like them, or substitute a tofu scramble.
Next, choose an add-on or two—the peppered bacon is hard to beat, but you can’t go wrong with the house-made sausage, and I love the seasoned kale option, too.
Cheese options include house-made American, sharp cheddar, or vegan cheddar. (Yes, you can veganize this thing without giving up a single layer.)
See and Be is one of the most kid-friendly places we’ve ever come across, in the Catskills or elsewhere. My kids have grown up on their handmade, truly from-scratch pastries that gathered a die-hard following at the old See & Be location on Route 145. Their spicy-sticky-sweet cinnamon buns alone are worth a trip from Brooklyn to the Catskills.
The cafe has one big communal table and no WiFi! This isn’t an internet cafe—it’s a place to chat with neighbors or catch up with your family. I don’t even get phone service here, and I love it.
They’ve got pantry items for home-cooking inspiration and a fridge stocked with carefully curated beverages, local dairy products, and prepared foods.
Plus, they’ve got frozen orbs of coffee to put in your iced coffee or cold brew so it doesn’t get watered down as the ice melts.
Since See and Be moved from their prior location on 145 to their new Cairo storefront, they’re open early every day except Monday. If you’re not a local, Cairo is under 15 minutes from the village of Catskill and only 15 minutes from the Zoom Flume, making it a key breakfast stop on the way to our favorite local water park.
See&Be Kitchen is located at 466 Main Street, Cairo, NY; (518) 719-0107. Open Tuesday through Saturday 7am to 6pm and Sunday 9am to 1pm. Check out their website and follow them on Instagram @see_and_be_kitchen for their latest updates.
