NOW CLOSED: So Many Cans of Beer on the Wall: Cave Mountain Brewing Co.
Windham's Cave Mountain Brewing Company is a basic bar & grill in all the best ways. With a lively bar, a straightforward food menu, smiling servers and a separate kid-friendly dining room that's great for groups, it's the kind of spot that's sadly fading from our Brooklyn landscape (RIP Downtown Bar & Grill).
They've got a solid line-up of house-brewed beers including a smooth cream ale, a light Blueberry Wheat and a Belgian that tastes a lot like a Blue Moon, plus a rotating roster of seasonal brews. Nothing here is going to bludgeon you with hops, but even for beer nerds who like their beers as cloudy/sour/dank as possible, Cave Mountain has its charms.
Anyone with children in tow will appreciate Cave Mountain's kids' menu and milkshakes served in paper cups (with tops!) which make it possible to pose your child to look as though she's sipping a beer through a straw.
Whether you're pairing your food with a pint or flight of house-brewed beers, their simple fare hits the spot. You can't go wrong with their reliable burger. The crisp-battered fish and chips come in a basket lined with fake newsprint. No-frills iceberg lettuce salads, sprinkled with grated cheese and served on paper papers, come with most meals.
Plus, there are just good vibes here. During our last visit, another little girl in the dining room won 2 jars of Play-Doh from the claw machine (a miracle in itself) and then came over and gave one to us. Her generosity kept our kids busy and deepened our affection for this friendly place.
