Hophead Roadtrip on Brooklyn Based: Our Hudson-Area Beer Guide
Looking to spend a summer weekend driving to breweries around Hudson, NY? Brooklyn Based featured our favorite spots in Hophead road trip: 6 Hudson Valley breweries for day-drinking or growlers to go. We'd be honored if you gave it a read.
On Brooklyn Based, we recommended taking a leisurely ride to 1 or 2 breweries per day, which is the most vacation-y (and responsible) way to visit these idyllic spots, but you could hit all 6 in one weekend if you work around all the breweries' limited hours. We're not recommending drinking tons of beer and driving around, but if you have a designated driver, here's how to do it:
Saturday Road Trip Plan:
- Start your weekend right with an amazing brunch at Gracies, open at 10am
- Drive out to the family-owned-and-operated, backyard brewery Hop Barn, open 11am-9pm
- Next stop: Another backyard brew house, Honey Hollow Brewery, open 12pm-8pm
- If you're in the mood for a food truck dinner, go straight to Crossroads Catskill Taproom, open 1pm-midnight. If you're hungry for finer fare, get dinner at New York Restaurant and grab a beer at Crossroads afterwards.
Sunday Road Trip Plan:
- Get burgers for lunch at Grazin' Diner (or brunch if you make it there before 11:30am)
- Savor a delicate pilsner or lager at Suarez Family Brewery, open 1pm-7pm
- Browse used books and vintage vinyl at the Little Red Book Shack
- We recommend making Sloop Brewing Co. (open 12pm-8pm) your second stop because their juicy, dank IPAs can be palate-wreckers. (This isn't a bad thing.) Soak up your pints with a snack at the Gracie's food truck out back.
- Start your journey back toward NYC, grabbing a final round and some dinner at Keegan Ales open 11:30am-8pm.
Please note: Since all the breweries have odd hours, this cheat sheet won't work unless you're traveling on a Saturday and Sunday and stick to the plan! But if you've got a whole week/summer/retirement to roll around and drink beer in the Catskills and Hudson Valley, here are the summer 2018 hours for all the breweries mentioned on Brooklyn Based:
