The Most Beautiful Library in the Catskills
Need a rainy day activity in the Catskills? Mountain Top Library in Tannersville should be on every book-lover’s bucket list. With vaulted ceilings, giant windows, cozy seating nooks, and an excellent kids’ section, there is a lot to love about this public library nestled in the Catskill Mountains.
On sunny summer day, Mountain Top Library was all ours. The kids section has a great selection of titles and also lots of puzzles at toddler-height and a play fort to crawl into.
We loved the peace and quiet of the space. My 8-year-old still fit into the tiny rocking chairs, and oh my gosh, I loved Matilda when I was her age, too!
One librarian offered to show us to the Lego area, even though it wasn’t technically Lego Time. My kids thanked her politely, but these bookworms were just there to read.
Events at the library include belly dance lessons, sound baths, guided meditations, and an art club for kids. On Tuesdays from 4pm to 5pm, members of the community are invited to play on the library’s baby grand piano. Those interested should call (518-589-5707) or stop by to sign up in advance.
Outside, around the perimeter of the library, we noticed that some of the bricks had been transformed into books with painted-on spines and covers. This little detail hints at all the magic inside.
Mountain Top Library is located at 6093 Main St, Tannersville; 518-589-5707. The library is open 10am to 5pm on weekdays and 10am to 2pm on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays.
