Hayley Shine Engineers Food-Friendly Beer at Roe Jan Brewing Co.

Hayley Shine, a head brewer with a bioengineering degree and a focus on well-balanced beers and cider-making, is sharing her expertise at Roe Jan Brewing Co. and Little Apple Cidery, and I’m so excited to share my feature on her for the brand new Hudson Valley section of the Albany Times Union: “A thinking woman's beer, now on tap in Columbia County.”

I was drawn to the story because RJBC’s chef, Charlie Kiely, is the former owner of The Grocery, which opened in my Brooklyn neighborhood of Carroll Gardens 1999 and was my favorite special-occasion spot when I moved here in 2001. The more I learned about Hayley and RJBC owners Kathy and Steve Bluestone, the more fascinated I became with this Hillsdale brewery and restaurant.

You can read all my work for the Times Union here.
